Feedback Lesson

This lesson, we took the opportunity to watch each others production pieces and give constructive criticism as to how we can improve our products. Some of the criticism I received for my running advert included:

  • Get to running earlier. I plan to solve this by cutting the preparation footage and making it a less significant part of the advert. I don't want to eliminate it entirely as I feel the shot types increase variation and the prep is important to set the scene.
  • Transitions. This needs to be made tighter and link together more, so I will pay closer attention to how I cut and edit footage together, perhaps rearranging some parts.
  • More locations needed. It was suggested that I include more urban environments, so I intend to use some discarded footage of my actor running at the road side.
  • Some shots are too long. This is one criticism I picked out myself, as I feel the pace doesn't quite fit the tone of the advert or the music at the moment. So, I am going to cut the clips so they are shorter, and fit to the music better.

Despite this, Steve and I were both praised on our use of varied shot types, through our use of focus pulls and angles, and good continuity and coherence. We intend to make the changes above to improve our main product even more.

As for my radio advert ancillary task, I was told to change some of the sound effects in use at the moment, as some people felt the chosen song didn't work well with the advert. Therefore I will look into changing the song, or editing it differently, to make it work.
